Frequently asked questions

Tap a question to open it.

What is pelvic floor physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy for the muscles that support your bladder, bowel, uterus and core. It can help with leaking, pelvic pain, prolapse, postpartum recovery and core strength, for all genders, with a Registered Physiotherapist.

Does the first visit include an internal exam?

It may. An internal assessment is often the clearest way to check the pelvic floor, and Shikha is rostered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario to perform one. It is always explained first and only done with your consent. An external assessment is always available.

Is it covered by insurance?

Most extended health plans that include physiotherapy cover it, because it is performed by a Registered Physiotherapist. We provide insurance-ready receipts. Check your plan for details.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No. In Ontario you can see a physiotherapist directly. Some insurance plans ask for a doctor's note for reimbursement, so check yours.

When can I start after giving birth?

Many people start around six weeks postpartum, once cleared by their doctor or midwife, but there is no expiry date. Six weeks or six years on, an assessment can still help.

Is it only for women?

No. Pelvic health affects everyone, including men recovering from prostate surgery or living with pelvic pain. All genders are welcome.

Can I bring my baby?

Yes. Dolphin Dive is a family space and your little one is welcome at your appointment, so childcare is one less thing to sort out.
